The Elo rating system assigns numerical ratings to competitors based on game outcomes, where the expected score depends on rating differences. In AI, Elo ratings are used to rank chatbots (Chatbot Arena by LMSYS), compare model capabilities, and evaluate AI systems through head-to-head comparisons. Bradley-Terry model is commonly used to model win probabilities from Elo ratings.
