GAN consists of two networks trained adversarially: a generator creates fake data, and a discriminator distinguishes real from fake. Through this minimax game, the generator learns to produce increasingly realistic outputs. GAN variants include DCGAN (deep convolutional), StyleGAN (style transfer), Pix2Pix (paired image translation), and CycleGAN (unpaired). GANs excel at image synthesis but face mode collapse and training instability.
